USA

Approximately 90 percent of students in America under a college level attend a public elementary or secondary school. These schools are funded through local and state taxes as they have no tuition. The American system normally consist of the following: elementary schools run from kindergarten to the eighth grade. Some may end at the sixth grade and these students would attend a middle or junior high school for seventh to ninth grades. Upon completion of these classes the student would then attend a high school for grades nine through twelve.

For students that do not attend public schooling the other option is private schools, these are funded with payment of tuition from the parents. Largely private schools are run through religious sectors. A more recent option that is growing in the US is home schooling where the parents educate their children.

The United States is not based on one national schooling system. However, the government does give guidelines and funding for both public and private schools can take part with the U.S. Department of Education supervising these programs.

After completion of high school a student attends a college or university. This is a not compulsory and is a form of higher learning that last four years and teaches courses in related subjects. Most colleges are independent and upon completing the four year program students receive a bachelors’ degree. Also, if one chooses may attend a junior or community college with lower cost.
